Edge computing is a form of cloud computing that is designed to be deployed at the edge of the network, or as close to the end user as possible. This can include devices such as IoT sensors, mobile phones and tablets, smart watches and other wearable devices as well as PCs and workstations.

It also connects them with each other so they can share information seamlessly across different devices without having to go back up into the cloud first before being sent out again over another network connection (e.g., Wi-Fi).
